Leicester City's Paterson Dhaka has taken his first start at the Premier League level with a goal in the club's 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 25-year-old midfielder was given the nod to play as a second-half substitute for Danny Welbeck, who went off injured and replaced by Ben Watson.

Dhaka opened the scoring after just four minutes when he headed home a header from a corner kick.

But it wasn't long before the visitors found themselves behind, as Crystal Palace doubled their lead through Jordan Pickford.

With 10 minutes left on the clock, Dhaka struck again, this time from the penalty spot, as he curled a low shot into the top corner.

Despite the goals, the hosts were unable to find the back of the net until the final minute of normal time,Premier League Updates when Harry Maguire headed home from close range.

Dhaka's debut came under pressure early on, but he managed to hold onto the ball and create chances, which ultimately paid off.

"It's always exciting to get your debut," said Dhaka. "It feels great to be able to put my name on the scoresheet, especially against a team like Crystal Palace."

He added that he had been impressed by the support he received during his time out on loan at Crystal Palace.

"Being away from my family and friends has made me stronger mentally," he said. "I've also learned a lot about myself and what I need to do better in the game."
